PYM In India

Over 10 lakh new cases of cancer are diagnosed every year in India. However, due to late diagnosis over 7 lakh people die from the disease every year. Projections by Indian Council of Medical Research show India is likely to have over 17.3 lakh new cases of cancer and over 8.8 lakh deaths due to the disease by 2020.

Western countries, 89% of women diagnosed with breast cancer are still alive 5 years after their diagnosis, which is due to detection and treatment (Parkin, 2008).The low survival rates in less developed countries can be explained mainly by the lack of early detection programmes.. PYM is a campaign by a mother daughter team from Kochi to create awareness about breast cancer!

A simple self exam to check for tiny painless stones and early signs of breast cancer could help detect breast cancer early and save lives . We encourage every kid to “pester their moms ” to do a self exam every month to check for these signs
